How to adopt a Young at Heart cat:
There is nothing sweeter than a senior cat getting a second chance and a happily ever after with a family who loves him or her with their whole hearts. To ensure a successful adoption, we work with you to find the right cat to match your lifestyle and needs.
The adoption procedure involves these steps:
- Complete an application. The approval process can take up to 72 hours during a normal work week.
- Talk with the adoption team and arrange to meet the cat(s) you are interested in.
- If the meeting goes well and all parties feel it's a good match, complete the adoption paperwork and welcome your new family member!
Young at Heart welcomes adopters from anywhere in the US with a stellar reference from your veterinarian. You must come here to visit with the pet you are interested in, as we do not ship our beloved senior pets. If you are a first time pet guardian, or you haven't had a pet in your life for some time, we will still happily adopt a pet to you as long as you are in the Chicagoland area. If you see a cat on our website or meet one at an adoption fair that you are interested in getting to know, please complete our online adoption application. One of our volunteers will get in touch with you as soon as possible. If you prefer, you may email firstname.lastname@example.org, however this may delay the adoption process.
Young at Heart charges an adoption fee of $75 for each cat that helps to cover spay/neuter surgery, shots, and other medical and general care given before the cat is made available for adoption.
Because our goal is to ensure a good match for both you and the cat, every adoption comes with a two-week trial adoption period during which everyone can assess if the adoption works for the cat and his or her new family. If you decide that the cat is not a good match for you within this two-week period, we’ll happily take him or her back and refund your adoption fee.
Please note: Some details about our cats might have changed before we’ve been able to update our website. When our adoption team gets in touch with you, we will have the most current information available for you. Also, information about our cats is based on the best of our knowledge, but we can make no guarantees about the cat’s health or temperament.
