A Dream Come True!

A dream came true with the opening of Young at Heart's adoption center for senior pets!

Despite the rain, over 500 people came out last Sunday to celebrate our Grand Opening. Our guests were able to tour "Smokey's Haven", named after the beloved Labrador of lead capital campaign donors, John & Rita Canning, and visit with the senior pets. To say that we are thrilled with the excitement for our opening would be an understatement! Even our very first adopters from 2005, Sue & Adrienne, came out to visit! To see all the smiles of people walking through was so rewarding, but one of the most exciting parts of the day was all the adoption applications for our senior pets waiting for homes. We are so grateful for everyone's support and excitement sharing in this very special day with us.

A huge thank you to our volunteers and staff who put in long hours as we prepared to open our doors, everyone who donated to make this dream possible, to Elite Minibus for sponsoring the shuttle service for the day, to Woodstock Harley Davidson for their generosity with their parking and facility, to Marna Niebergall de Rojas of Embracing Grace Photography for sponsoring photography, to The Sugar Circle for the scrumptious cupcakes, to Ralph's Rental and Crown Restrooms "the Purple Potty People" for the charitable pricing and kindness, and to our vendors who helped make the day more fun - Nature's Feed: Natural Pet Products, Pet Food, and Pet Supplies, Grounds & Hounds Coffee Co., 4 Paws Activity Center, Animal Hospital of McHenry, and Stacey Toibin The Rescue Broker: At Properties!

The big question from a LOT of people who missed the grand opening is "when can I come visit?!?" We love how excited everyone is! So we are working on a schedule of regularly available tours for very small groups starting in October. Our facility is purposefully very quiet for the comfort of our senior pets, so we won't be offering walk-thrus outside of the tours. This way you can see the facility, but we won't stress out our seniors. We don't have open adoption hours at this time for the same reason - we strive to keep our seniors' stress levels as low as possible! Adoptions are by appointment only with an approved application so we can keep every adoption as personalized as possible. Tour info will be online when it's ready, and adoption applications are also online at www.adoptaseniorpet.com
