An Update on Operation "Heal Nancy's Heart"

Hi! Nancy here! Just wanted to give you an update and tell all of my friends that YOU GUYS ROCK! Together you all pitched in to help raise the $2500 that I need to fix the hole in my heart! I'm soooo happy! THANK YOU!

Here's the thing though, and I'm a little embarrassed about it (even though everyone at the rescue keeps telling me that it's not my fault).... I went into heat yesterday. Yep, I threw a wrench into Operation Heal Nancy's Heart.

I didn't mean to, but seeing as I was never spayed, and I'm not supposed to go under anesthesia to be spayed or get my dental until my heart is fixed... ugh. I'm a bit of a train wreck. And older females like me who are not spayed are always at risk for a deadly uterine infection called pyometra, so I was whisked to the vet for my 1000th vet visit to date (well, not really, but it feels like it!). Unfortunately, I tested positive for bacteria that makes heart surgery too risky right now.

For the next two weeks, I am on antibiotics to lower my risk of needing an emergency spay surgery and to get rid of the bacteria. I will check in with Purdue when I'm all done with the meds to get the green light for heart surgery!

Operation Heal Nancy's Heart is still ON, thanks to all of the amazing people who donated! I'm so happy that my heart surgery won't take away funds from all the other seniors that need rescue! We're just on a bit of a delay to make sure that the operation is as safe as possible for little old me. Paws crossed that the antibiotics work their magic!

Thanks so much for helping an old girl like me! You ROCK!
