Buster the Boxer is Safe With Us!
Holiday #SeniorMoment: One of the most amazing things about rescuing senior pets is all of the people who work together to make it happen. This past weekend, despite a forecast of snowy weather, four more senior pets found their way to Young at Heart. Thanks to the dedication of our teeny staff and oodles of volunteers, we were able to help three different shelters transfer some seniors that were in danger of being euthanized into the safety of Young at Heart instead.
From the transport volunteers driving the miles to get them to safety, the to the donors funding the veterinary care of each one, to the foster families readying themselves for their first foster dog or their 56th foster dog, to the adopters already filling out applications to give a senior pet a home for the holidays - rescuing senior pets takes a wonderful village full of big-hearted people who never cease to amaze us.
Each day until the end of the year, we'll be sharing a Young at Heart Holiday #SeniorMoment with you. It's moments like these that make up what Young at Heart does all year round, thanks to the support of big-hearted animal lovers like you who have a soft spot for the oldies.
And so, meet one of the gorgeous old souls saved this weekend, brought to the Good Life here at Young at Heart. This is Buster, a very sweet, very funny 11-year-old Boxer. Whether he lost his way in a forest preserve or was dumped there, he won't say, but his people never came for him at animal control. This is his Freedom Ride pic. Since this weekend, he's gone from sleeping on cold concrete at animal control to snuggling up on the couch under a blanket in his foster home. He's received a head-to-toe geriatric check up that proved he's a pretty healthy guy. And, if all goes well with the meet and greet, he may soon have a new forever home.
This handsome frosted mug is as happy as could be, and he's safe and sound thanks to ALL of the people who chip in to make it possible. Buster, you are one lucky old fella to be so loved by so many!
