Help Us Reach Our Matching Gift Goal!
Friends, I absolutely cannot wait until we have the ability to walk through an animal control facility and pull every senior out of there, into the safety of Young at Heart. That's one of the many things we will be able to do with our new adoption center and sanctuary. And I, for one, cannot wait!
It's taken 12 years to get to this point, and we are all so incredibly excited. The main building is 5200 square feet, and will be called "Smokey's Haven," named after the beautiful senior lab of John & Rita Canning. How fitting to have Smokey's grey muzzle greeting you from the sign on the building as you enter the front door. What you can't see from the drawing is that there is a lower level, too! So many amazing things have been worked into the design of our little home away from home. From completely cageless rooms with couches and big windows to let natural light and air in, to fully enclosed "catios" for our senior kitties to enjoy fresh air and sunshine on nice days, to heated floors in all living areas, to a separate isolation area for new arrivals coming from animal control to keep everyone healthy- so many incredible features for senior pets that will stay with us while waiting to find loving families. We even have a separate building that will house a caretaker's apartment for 24/7 on-site staff, and space for what will eventually be our own veterinary suite. And among my most favorite things is that the number of senior pets we can help just the first year alone will increase by up to 4x as many as we currently can! We are asked daily by the public and animal controls everywhere if we can take the seniors that have no where else to go, but there are sadly always far more seniors than we have space for. I cannot wait to be able to say "yes" to helping far more senior pets than we could have ever imagined. But we need your help to do it!
Our architects and engineers have been working together out of their love for senior pets without charging us a dime, and are tying up all the loose ends to apply for the building permits. We could not do this without them, just like we cannot do this without YOU! We are now just $10,977 away from our matching gift goal! Thank you to everyone who has donated so far! From the anonymous $1 bills mailed in; to the donations from our foster homes, volunteers, and adopters; to all of you who want to be a part of this amazing opportunity for senior pets in need. Thank you! You are the reason this special place for senior pets can be built!
If you haven't donated yet, and would like to be a part of building a safe haven for senior pets, we need your help now! All donations will be matched through end of day on March 31st. If we all work together, we can cross the fundraising finish line to open the doors to a new home for senior pets!
