We Say Goodbye to Our Sweet Opie
Sweet, sweet Opie. Friends, we said goodbye to our sweet Opie yesterday. His body was tired and it was his time, and he left this world in the loving arms of his Young at Heart Sanctuary family.
Rescued after found roaming the streets of a mostly empty college town after all the kids had gone home for the summer, Opie stole our hearts the minute he arrived to Young at Heart. Though we found out at his first vet appointment that he had a fractured pelvis and advanced kidney disease, he never stopped being happy and loved every minute of life.
Opie was a wonderful ambassadog for Young at Heart, visiting with his fans at many events over the years. He captured the hearts of the public with his flappy ears and happy trot wherever he went. He was so incredibly loved by all of us here at Young at Heart and we know many of you loved him, too.
Though we are so sad that we had to say goodbye, we are also so grateful for the time we were blessed caring for him. It was an honor to show him what it meant to have a loving family until his last breath. Instead of perishing in a rural shelter before his time, Opie lived the good life with Young at Heart for just shy of two more years. He was so lucky to get to spend so much time being loved by Sandy and Mike, and our hearts are with them now.
Opie, you will always be remembered and loved. Sweet dreams, little man. May you run and leap and bound across heavenly meadows, pain free and happy until we meet again. We love you, Opie. ❤️🐾
