Martha

Hi there! I'm Martha, a gorgeous and sweet All-American Mutt! My adorable frosted mug will win your heart over the minute you meet me, and if that doesn't win you over, my sweet demeanor will. I have quite a bit of arthritis, so I am taking daily medication to help me be more comfortable. Even with meds, I was so uncomfortable for so long that I still don't like my hips touched. Who can blame me? I might grumble a bit, especially if you want me to get up while I'm sleeping. I still expect my body to hurt. Otherwise, I'm a sweet old girl who is set in her ways, and now enjoy a calm retired environment. I enjoy peace and quiet, sitting next to my people while they read, watch tv, or work in the yard. I enjoy short little strolls and getting love when I lay my head in your lap. I get along just fine with laid back dogs and am fine with cats. I've been treated for heartworm disease, too. But mostly, my life before coming to Young at Heart wasn't all that great. It's taken me a year to figure out that I am loved, I am safe, and I have finally figured out that all humans at Young at Heart are gentle and loving. I am finally, after much time and adjustment, a happy girl. After trying to find a perfect forever home for me, it became apparent that I would be happiest not having to adjust all over again. Adjusting to a new home is no big deal for a lot of dogs, but I am a sensitive soul and it took me a long time to figure out that I am okay. It took me a long time to enjoy myself and relax. And so, since everything at Young at Heart is done in the pet's best interest, I am over the moon that I get to spend my retirement years with the people who helped me through the toughest transition of my life as a permanent sanctuary dog for Young at Heart. I am overjoyed! Thank you for giving senior pets like me the opportunity to enjoy our golden years, whether through adoption or permanent residence at Young at Heart!
