Catio Cafe FAQ

What is a Cat Cafe?
A cafe is a coffee shop that serves beverages while you sit and visit with a friend, work on your laptop, or just watch the world go by.  A cat cafe is essentially the same (Google refers to them as 'themed cafes') except there are cats present. Some cat cafes even offer living room-like areas where you can play with your new kitty friends while enjoying a drink.

What does my reservation donation support?
Your reservation donation of $25 to Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions supports the homeless senior pets in our care. As a 501c3 nonprofit organization, Young at Heart runs solely on the donations of animal lovers like you. $20 of your $25 donation is tax-deductible, so be sure to print your receipt for your tax records!

Can I bring my own pet to the cafe?

We're sure your personal pet is great, but for the health and safety of our cats, outside pets are not allowed. Please bring a photo to show us instead!

I have or know of a senior cat that needs a home. Can I bring it to you?
The majority of the senior cats in our care come from open-admission shelters where they are in danger of being euthanized due to overcrowding. If you have or know of a senior pet in need of rehoming, please visit our Rehoming a Senior Pet page.

Can I take home one of the cats I meet at Young at Heart's Catio Cafe?
All of the cats you'll be visiting during your Catio Cafe visit will either be adoptable cats or sanctuary cats (permanent residents). If you fall in love with a kitty, we would love for you to fill out an adoption application for him or her! Adoptions are not done the same day as your Catio Cafe visit, as we do adoption appointments separately, but we strive to process adoption applications quickly so you can bring home your new feline friend within just a few days.

Can I meet the dogs or get a tour while I'm there for my Catio Cafe visit?
While we know everyone would like to meet all the animals at Young at Heart or see the entire facility during their visit, this is simply not possible and stresses the dogs out. You may meet a dog or two on your coming and going from the cat areas, but we cannot guarantee this nor allow you to visit with particular dogs. Your one-hour Catio Cafe visit will give you plenty of time to visit with several of the kitties though!

Are children allowed to visit the Catio Cafe?
Yes. We believe it is important for children to have the opportunity to spend time with older animals and learn how to behave around them. However, you know your child best, and will be fully responsible for their behavior. Rules for respecting the cats will be strictly enforced and we will not hesitate to ask you and your child to leave without a refund if their behavior poses a threat to the cats. Children 18 and under must be accompanied by an adult at all times.

Will you make an exception and allow me to have more than 3 people in my Catio Cafe party?
At this time, we can only accommodate three people on the Catio at a time. Because this is a very special "pop up" cafe for the summer and not a full-time cafe designed for several visitors, we have to limit the number to three total persons per reservation.

Do you accept walk-ins for the Catio Cafe?
No, all Catio Cafe guests must have a reservation beforehand. We do not offer or accept walk-ins at this time. We limit the number of people in the Catio Cafe daily to ensure the safety and happiness of the cats.

What Covid precautions are you taking?
Regardless of your vaccination status, masks are required at all times while inside the cat room and adoption center, or when inside any other Young at Heart buildings. You may have your mask off while outdoors on the Catio. Please keep our staff, volunteers, and cats safe by rescheduling your reservation if you have been exposed to Covid or have any Covid symptoms. Areas will be sanitized between reservations.

Is the Catio Cafe indoors? No, the Catio Cafe is on the outdoor enclosed patios at Young at Heart. While the catios are covered and normally shaded, dress to be outside. In case of rain or inclement weather, we may need to reschedule your visit or move seating inside the cat room (if space allows).

What if I can't make my reservation time?
Your reservation donation is not refundable, but we are happy to apply your donation to another available reservation time.

Where can I buy the Catio Cafe gear?
You can purchase Catio Cafe t-shirts, sweatshirts, tote bags, and white mugs from our online store HERE! Limited edition two-tone mugs and Euro stickers are only available to in-person Catio Cafe guests for purchase.

Is the Catio Cafe ADA accessible?
Yes, we can arrange for the Catio to be ADA accessible. We do ask if you need wheelchair seating with every reservation so that we can have the space comfortable and ready for your visit!

Is there a bathroom available?
Yes, we have an ADA-compliant bathroom available just outside the cat room. A staff person or volunteer will accompany you in and out of the cat area for the cat's safety if you need to visit the bathroom.

Where are you located?
Young at Heart Senior Pet Adoptions, 4301 S IL Route 47, Woodstock IL 60098. The Catio Cafe is located on the catios of the Smokey's Haven building.

Do you have parking?
Yes, we have a reserved spot directly in front of the Catio Cafe for you. Look for the Catio Cafe A-frame sign!
