Young at Heart's sanctuary dogs are permanent residents due to complex medical or behavioral needs and are not available for adoption.

Shirley came to us a sweet meatball of goofiness with a lot of medical issues. When we rescued her, she had two wrecked knees, torn ACLs, and other medical issues that made her quite the little train wreck. We worked diligently to address each and every one of her medical needs, and by Christmas 2020, she was finally ready for adoption! Shirley is such a good girl, and loves absolutely everyone here. Her favorite pastimes are walks on the trails and watching her favorite movie about wolves in the family room. She's always our happy little hippo, and just loves life. As we searched for the perfect home for her, one day she was lethargic and painful and we rushed her to the ER. Diagnostics showed that our sweet Shirley had a large mass on her liver, and subsequent surgery proved for it to be inoperable. Now we are spending each day showering Shirley with all the love and fun she can handle while we ensure she is comfortable and does not know that she is sick. Thanks to our supporters, Shirley is now a sanctuary dog, and is enjoying every day to the fullest as every senior pets deserves.
